ABOUT ME

BEHIYE SUREN-BURNS (RMT)

As a Registered Music Therapist with the Australian Music Therapy Association, I have worked with clients from varied backgrounds such as mums/bubs in early childhood programs, school aged children in clinical settings, First Nations adolescents in rural NSW,  adults in a mental health ward  and elderly clients in residential care. My deepest calling and vision is to help enrich the life quality and well-being of the people I serve.  I possess an empathetic and dedicated nature, which  has enabled me to build trusting relationships with my clients and their families. For this, I am deeply grateful, as this is the key ingredient that has lead to successful therapeutic outcomes for my clients.

Prior to completing a Masters in Creative Music Therapy, I had worked as a singer/songwriter, a tertiary educator and a life coach. I had recorded two albums of original music, supported by the Australian Arts Council. My debut EP ‘Season of Plums’ was featured on SBS/FBI radio shows and in Time Out Magazine. As a culturally diverse voice in Australian music, I was a delegate at the 2019 Australian Women in Music Awards and performed at local/ international venues and cultural events such as Anzac Centenary at Gallipoli Cove, Turkey (in the presence of King Charles and Prince Harry). As an educator and personal coach, I had mentored hundreds of people to succeed in achieving academic, professional and relationship goals.

Fearless Voices Music Therapy respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians and the past, present day and emerging elders of the Bidjigal, Darug and Darkinjung nations. It is upon unceded Aboriginal lands that we strive to support people of all backgrounds, abilities, bodies and cultures through music. We recognise the enduring kinship and songlines retained in these lands and cherish the rich and ongoing connections First Nations people have to Country, culture, song, knowledge and artistic expression.
